A young buck

I didn't hit him. But as I drove by I saw his tail flip. I had to stop. Had to call the cops for help. While I waited I watched him breathing, flipping his tail and slowly moving his legs. Someone had hit him and kept driving, not giving a damn about him or what pain he might have been in as he lay there dying. I cared. I stayed. I talked to him till the cops came. He had little horns starting to come in. A buck. I held his head till they asked me to step aside. I heard the gunshot and breathed in deep. His suffering was over.

I just wish more people cared about things other than themselves.

Twelve Feet

This past week the Potomac went over flood stage (which is generally considered ten feet on the Little Falls gauge). It doesn't happen too often so Martin and I jumped at the chance to experience it. Back in the day I paddled over 200 days a year and would have charged some of the massive rapids we saw.

Thankfully I don't feel the need to prove myself like I once did. We put in downstream.

H30

My old friend Howard Holt, well into his 50's with 2 teenaged kids shows he can still rip the water like a pro. Used to wakeboard and barefoot with him every weekend. Might have to get back into that this summer...
